The 400 dton Bucket is a cheap small freighter which must either use
high port docking or may cautiously land on class A or B low ports.
It carries almost 300 tons of cargo on one level in an unstreamlined
slab of stacked compartments. The drives, crew section and bridge are
all bunched together to the rear of the ship on level two.
The ship is designed to be operated with minimal costs. Four crew fulfil
the positions of pilot, engineer, astrogator and freight-hand. One of those
will take the role of captain, an executive officer is probably nominated.
The ship operates on three 8 hour shifts with one member of the
crew watching all systems.
The crew do not have much privacy, spending rest periods in sleeping niches or
in the resaonbly spacious commons.
A generic model 1 computer can provide some support to the crew
A large cargo air-lock does enable enable some flexibility in freight handling
operations, but careful freight planning is required to ensure efficient
unloading.
Space for a single 1 dton turret is allocated, along with a cramped gunner console;
though the basic model does not come fitted with a turret.
Whilst this version is built at technology level 12, the design may be built to the
same specification, performance and cost at TL-10 or TL-11 using Dense Plate hull
(with appropriate armor value (AV 10 or 11)).
